What this treatment does
- Ends daily plucking, threading, and the shadow that comes with it
- Treated at conservative settings with a small precision handpiece
- Areas can be combined — upper lip and chin in one appointment
- Safe on darker skin tones with the correct wavelength
Facial hair removal covers upper lip, chin, jawline, cheeks, and sideburns individually or in combination. It is the most precise work we do and uses a smaller handpiece at lower energy, because facial skin is thinner and more reactive than skin anywhere else.
Be aware that facial hair is the least predictable area on the body. It is often hormonally driven — PCOS, thyroid conditions, perimenopause, and some medications all stimulate new follicles that were not there before. That means facial courses tend to run longer, usually 8 to 12 sessions, and most clients need maintenance sessions two or three times a year afterwards rather than stopping entirely.
We will say this at your patch test rather than after you have bought a package. If your facial hair is fine, blonde, or grey, laser will not work on it and we will tell you so — electrolysis is the honest answer for those cases.
Before your session
Shave or trim 12–24 hours before. Do not pluck, wax, or thread for four weeks — this is the single most common reason a facial course underperforms.
Stop retinoids, acids, and exfoliating actives for 5 days before your session. Come without makeup, or we will remove it. No sunbed and no self-tan during your course.
After your session
Expect redness and small bumps for a few hours, occasionally into the next day. Facial skin is more reactive than body skin.
SPF 50 every day for two weeks, no exceptions — sun exposure on freshly treated facial skin is the main cause of pigment changes. Skip retinoids, acids, and exfoliants for 5 days, and makeup for 24 hours. No saunas, steam, or hot yoga for 48 hours.
Questions about facial laser hair removal
Why does facial hair need more sessions than body hair?
Facial hair is frequently hormonally driven, so the follicles that exist today are not necessarily all the follicles you will have next year. Conditions such as PCOS, thyroid disorders, and perimenopause can activate dormant follicles. That is why facial courses run 8 to 12 sessions and usually need ongoing maintenance two or three times a year.
Can I have facial laser if I have PCOS?
Yes, and it usually helps considerably — but the expectation has to be management rather than a one-time fix. Clients with PCOS typically need more sessions in the initial course and regular maintenance afterwards, because the underlying hormonal driver keeps stimulating follicles. We plan for that from the start rather than pretending otherwise.
Will laser work on blonde, grey, or white facial hair?
No. Laser targets melanin, the pigment in the hair. Blonde, grey, white, and most red hair does not contain enough melanin to absorb the energy, so the follicle is never heated enough to be destroyed. Electrolysis is the only method that works on unpigmented hair, and we will tell you at the patch test rather than sell you a course that cannot work.
